Welcome from the director
Welcome to the interdisciplinary Middle Childhood Education Major website in the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University! The basic purpose of the MCE program is to produce outstanding teachers for the critical middle school years who are creative critical thinkers, experienced in research-based methods of active engagement learning which produce the best student gains and excitement about learning. As such, the program goals are very much in concert with the overall university mission and we hope, in fact, will funnel better prepared middle school students into high school and, of course, even better students into Ohio State in the future!
The Middle Childhood Education major and Education minor combination prepares you to be very competitive for entry into the best post-graduate teacher licensure programs. The interdisciplinary nature of this program, combining faculty and students across the arts and sciences with the latest education research integrating content and method, provides a richness that will continue to have impact after graduation. We look forward to providing you with more information about the MCE program both before you come to campus and as you progress toward your goals of becoming a teacher! Please feel free to contact me at any time!
